A Nairobi magistrate has warned members of the public from attacking officers on duty and urged the police to discharge their duties honourably.
Milimani principal magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi said this on Friday evening after releasing Ian Njoroge who is accused of assaulting a police officer and violently robbing him along Kamiti Road.
The magistrate said it's worrying when the public takes the law into their hands to assault police officers who are discharging their duties.
"It is incontrovertible that assaulting a law enforcement officer while in uniform is a serious offence regardless of sordid reasons. I say so because, if not curtailed it can lead to anarchy and lawlessness," he said.
"I passionately urge fellow Kenyan patriots that at no point should we perpetuate and witness such scenes. To the disciplined forces shine your badges, polish your boots, be honourable in your duties, be steadfast and always do good."
Njoroge was, however, not given an alternative of a cash bail. He will now have to deposit a motor vehicle log book or a title deed worth Sh700,000.
"In the upshot, I admit the accused person to a bond of Sh700,000 with a surety of a similar amount. There will be no alternative of a cash bail at this stage However, parties will be at liberty to seek a review later", Ekhubi stated.
