Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday rubbished reports of a storm in the UDA party denying the leadership had called a crisis meeting.

Speaking at Mercy Church of Africa (PMCA), at Kipkok in Sigowet-Soin Constituency, Kericho County during a drive, Gachagua said the meeting that has been convened is about addressing internal party matters including deliberating on the ongoing UDA elections.

''What crisis? There is no crisis meeting," Gachagua said.

He said that when President William Ruto was out of the country, he also convened and chaired a meeting of the party to discuss how to strengthen the outfit and deliberate on elections.

He said there is nothing strange with the meeting that has been convened as it will discuss elections of the ruling party.

"When the President was away he asked me to call that meeting and I did because we want to strengthen our party,'' Gachagua said .

The DP laughed off what he termed a scheme by some people to set the agenda for the party in a bid to stir confusion and pandemonium.

"Let nobody set an agenda for us. We must strengthen and build our party because it is a party with an ideology," he said.

He said the party shall continue to hold more meetings going forward to enhance its vibrancy.

"As a party, we shall continue to strengthen ourselves,'' he added.

The DP was reacting to reports that President Ruto had convened a crisis National Executive Committee meeting on Saturday to deliberate on cracks allegedly emerging in the ruling outfit.

The President is set to chair another meeting of the Parliamentary Group (PG) on June 17 to whip lawmakers to support his agenda in Parliament including support for the Finance Bill, 2024.

The DP was accompanied by Kericho Governor Erick Mutai, Kericho Senator and Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, MP Justice Kemei among other leaders.
