Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has said the old guard in politics should not expect to be respected if they do not reciprocate the same to youthful politicians.

Citing the bible, Babu said young leaders should not be despised because of their age.

“We respect the old guard who are above us politically. But the old guard must respect us because we were also elected by the people,” he said.

The lawmaker added that when Kenyans were electing youthful MPs, they did not see them as children.

“Someone who has three kids and intends to have five is that a child. In Central, Ndindi Nyoro is harassed, here, it is Babu Owino. What do you want us to do,” he posed.

He maintained that they will respect leaders who are older than them if they also have the same attitude towards them.

“If you bring peace, we will bring peace. If you bring war, we will ask God to punish you,” he added.

Last month, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua told youthful MPs from Rift Valley to refrain from engaging in Central Kenya politics.

He warned “young politicians” against interfering in Central Kenya politics.

On Sunday, President William Ruto assured young leaders of his commitment to mentor them.

The President said the success of any leadership is in mentoring the youth to become better leaders.

“We like assisting other leaders because we shall be happier if we get better leaders than us. That is how we shall have a better country,” said Ruto.

Speaking at Nakuru Boys High School grounds during the Akorino Annual Prayer Conference, the President told the young leaders that their political future was bright.
