Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore has called for inclusivity during policy or strategy development to realise social justice for all.

Bore said inclusion should be from the initial stages of policy formulation to the implementation stage.

Bore was speaking when she addressed the Inaugural Forum for the Global Coalition for Social Justice at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

“This should be time bound and supported with monitoring and evaluation mechanisms and should have a bottom-up approach, involvement of the masses,” she stated.

Bore pointed out that a bottom-up approach is a principle well-articulated in Kenya’s national policy framework, the Bottom- up Economic Transformation Agenda 2022-2027.

“Partners, indeed this is the direction to take as we move forward in our quest to promote social justice,” she added.

The Government of Kenya was admitted to the Global Coalition for Social Justice this year.

Bore expressed optimism that the meeting will address social justice deficits and accelerate implementation of the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development Goals and the Decent Work Agenda.

“As a developing country, we have formulated various policies and legislation to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive as well as to enhance protection of labour, job creation and empower our community,” she said.

She said Kenya has developed the Wages and Remuneration policy which is an important instrument in achieving macro-economic stability and equity in our country.

“This policy also ensures promotion of productivity, enterprise competitiveness and sustainable employment creation and retention,” she added.

She said the government is also re-engineering the social dialogue institutions such as the National Labour Board, Sectoral Councils for wages, skills development and social protection.

Bore further cited the National Labour Migration Policy whose main objective is to promote inclusive and sustainable development in the country through safe, orderly and productive labour migration.

“This policy further maximises the participation of Kenya migrant workers in the economic development,” she added.

Present at the high level Inaugural Forum of the Global Coalition for Social Justice was President of the 112th Session of the International Labour Conference Alexei Buzu.

Director General of the International Labour Organisation Gilbert Houngbo, partners of the Global Coalition for Social Justice and Labour and Skills Development PS Shadrack Mwadime were also present.
