National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungw'ah has revealed that the police chopper designated for use by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is undergoing maintenance.

This is the reason the DP has not been using the same for his travels, instead using private choppers and Kenya Airways aircrafts.

"The Deputy President has a police aircraft designated for his use which currently is under maintenance," he said.

Ichungw'ah spoke on Wednesday on the floor of the National Assembly.

"The Cabinet Secretary (Aden Duale) tells me that in the next few weeks they will have finalised with its maintenance because its not just a police aircraft that is maintained by the government. It is flown and operated by Kenya Airforce pilots and servicemen," he said.

Gachagua can no longer use the military aircrafts without first writing to Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.

This is after the military and Ministry of Defence put measures to tame runaway costs of operation.

"The Defence Cabinet Secretary (Aden Duale) did inform me that for the last one year, the aircraft used by the Deputy President, prime cabinet secretary and other senior government officials occasioned an expenditure of Sh500 million to KDF," Ichung'wah said.

On Sunday, Gachagua arrived late for the Akurinu National Prayer Conference in Nakuru.

The Prayer conference was graced by President William Ruto.

Gachagua explained to Ruto why he arrived at the event, about one hour after him when the service was underway.

Gachagua stated that he had problems with his transport arrangements adding that the weather was also not favourable.

“I delayed to leave and I was stuck between Longonot and Naivasha for almost two hours before I could get here,” he added.

On Tuesday, the DP boarded a Kenya Airways commercial flight to Mombasa where he was expected to officially open the International Scientific Conference of the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya.
