Four people died in an early morning bus accident in Saku, Marsabit County.
The accident which involved a bus heading from Nairobi to Moyale also left 41 passengers injured.
A police statement said the accident occurred at about 4:50am at Gofchopa area along Marsabit-Moyale road.
It involved a Scania bus coming from Marsabit general direction towards Moyale.
Police said the driver fled the scene after the accident which occurred after the driver lost control of the bus prompting it to hit a roadside barrier.
The bus which had 60 passengers, then veered off the road and landed on the left side of the road killing two men and two women.
Nine passengers were seriously injured including five male adults, three female adults and one teenager.
Police said others sustained minor injuries.
"The injured were rushed to Marsabit County referral hospital for treatment while the deceased bodies were moved to the morgue tat the same facility," police said.
They said arrangements are underway to tow the vehicle to the station.
Mourning the loss, Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali said they are deeply concerned for the injured.
"We mourn the loss of four lives and are deeply concerned for the 41 injured," he said.
Governor Ali visited the hospital to check on the injured, lauding the staff at Marsabit County Referral Hospital for their excellent work.
"My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families, and I wish a swift recovery to the injured," he said.
The Governor said the county government will step in for support needed.
"My government is committed to providing all necessary assistance," Ali said.
