CJ Koome leads national day of mourning in honour of Magistrate Monica Kivuti

Judiciary officials on Thursday gathered at Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday in honour of their colleague Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti.

Kivuti was shot on Thursday afternoon at the  Makadara Law Courts after she made a ruling in a case involving a policeman's wife.

The officials are being led by the Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Also present is the Attorney General Justin Muturi.

According to the programme, judges, judicial officers, staff, CUC members and stakeholders in the justice sector are expected to arrive at 9:30 am. followed by signing of condolence book as guests arrive.

The national anthem will then be sung followed by prayers led by Lady Justice Asenath Ongeri.

A moment of silence will then be observed in honour of Kivuti.

There will be a sermon led by Fr Patrick Ndung’u followed by remarks from various stakeholders.

Those expected to give their remarks include Deputy Director of Public Prosecution Jacinta Nyamosi, Zachary Mwangi from Witness Protection Agency, and LSK Nairobi branch chairperson Eric Kivuva.

Kenya Judiciary Staff Association (KJSA) deputy president Emily Kimani, Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA) VP Rhoda Yator and HoS Milimani Law Courts Lucas Onyina will also give their address.

Principal Judge -Employment & LabourRelations Court Justice Byram Ongaya, Principal Judge- Environment & Land Court Justice Oscar Angote and Principal Judge -High Court and Justice Eric Ogola will also speak.

CJ Koome will be the last to speak, followed by lighting of candles and placing of flowers in memorial, and a closing prayer.

The National Mourning Day serves as a solemn occasion to celebrate the life and contributions of the magistrate.
