Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has condemned the arrest of several people protesting against Finance Bill 2024.

Speaking to the press outside Milimani Law Court on Tuesday, Kalonzo has assured Kenyans that he, together with other Azimio leaders will ensure the arrested persons are released.

He added that they are expressing their rights and have not gone against the constitution.

He added that the Finance Bill is being introduced amidst harsh economic times for Kenyans.

"The people of Kenya are a right to demonstrate according to the constitution of Kenya. The Finance Bill has been introduced at a time when Kenyans cannot even put food on their table and therefore, they must fight for their rights," Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo had joined hundreds of Kenyans in mourning the untimely demise of a Makadara Principal Magistrate Monicah Kivuti who was shot by a police officer during an active court session last week.

The mourning session took place outside Milimani Law courts.

In his speech, he urged judges and magistrates to act on intelligence on the matters they handle to enable them to dispense justice with a clear understanding of whom they are dealing with in courtrooms.

Several members of the Judiciary also delivered their condolence messages to the family and friends of Kivuti.

Director of Public Prosecution Renson Igonga through a representative, Cynthia Nyamusi said Kivuti will be remembered for her dedication to serving people with justice.

He promised to work closely with other judicial officers to ensure judicial staff and other court users' safety is looked into and worked on.

The Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association said that they are tired of threats directed at judicial officers and that courtrooms should be safe places for them to dispense justice.

Additionally, they termed tents and containers as unsafe places for judges and magistrates to hold court sessions.

Kivuti will be buried on Saturday, 22 June 2024 in Yatta, Machakos County.
