Uganda President Yoweri Museveni on Monday celebrated his wife Janet's birthday.

Museveni through his X handle celebrated his wife of 51 years as she turns 76 years.

In a beautiful message, Museveni described the First Lady as a 'God-given comrade-in-arms'.

He said Janet, who is the Managing Director at Museveni Incorporated, played a critical role in his youth life.

"The matriarch of the Museveni group, the mother, the grandmother, my God-given comrade-in-arms of nearly 51 years, my dear wife, Maama Janet Museveni, has turned 76 years of age," he said.

"Praise be the Lord who helped us to navigate through so many challenges and gave us so many blessings," he said.

Museveni stated that Mama Janet's unique role in their family story came out between 1981 and 1986 when they had to send her into exile with their young children.

They include Muhoozi, Natasha, Patience and Diana when Muhoozi was just six years old while Diana was six months.

Museveni said while their family had been in exile between 1971 to 1979, he had been with them in Tanzania coming and going.

However, this time, she was with the children alone in Kenya and Sweden, Museveni said.

He added that by that time, he was well-known and had many African friends like Samora Machel, Shamuyarira, Muammar Gaddafi, friends in the USA, late Kenya president Daniel Moi and many others.

"Systems do not always work well. She had to carry all the burden until they relocated to Sweden where the system was very friendly," Museveni said.

He saluted the Swedish for supporting his family between 1983 and 1986.

"I salute Ambassador Mirjam Blaak for making the arrangements. I thank God who gave me Mama Janet to give me a family even as I wandered around as a freedom fighter," he said.

He also said that in the social-political areas of Uganda, God has used Mama Janet to support the orphans (UWESO), as a leader in the Ministry of Karamoja and the Ministry of Education and as an MP for Ruhaama.
