The highly anticipated Nyanza international investment conference that was scheduled to be held starting Friday has been postponed.

Organisers of the regional event say it has been rescheduled in response to the current situation in the country.

“In view of the prevailing situation in the country, we the organisers of the Nyanza International Investment Conference have come to a decision to postpone the conference until a later date,” reads a statement from the conference chair Japh Olende.

The new dates, he said, will be communicated after a “keen review of necessary parameters needed to ensure a successful conference”.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and promise to remain in touch once the new dates have been identified,” Olende said.

President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga were expected to grace the summit bringing together various professionals from across the counties of Kisii, Nyamira, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisumu, and Siaya counties.

The conference was to be held at Ciala Resort in Kisumu and aimed to foster development across the counties in the region by attracting both local and international investors.

"This conference is a step to exploit the untapped available investment opportunity in Nyanza into an economic powerhouse,” ICT cabinet secretary Eliud Owalo said.

Local and international investors, national and county government officials and the private sector were to meet to explore investment opportunities in the region.

Owalo, who is the conference patron, said the conference would impact the region’s economy as it will enable participants to exploit the available opportunity.

The conference was being organised under the theme, "Nyanza Rising: Towards Economic Transformation for Socio-Economic Growth and Development".
