Central Turkana MP Joseph Namuar of the UDA party has asked the residents of his constituency for forgiveness after supporting the Financial Bill.

In a video seen by the Star, the MP also commended President William Ruto for not signing the Finance Bill.

"Na kama kuna njia ambayo tulikosea sisi ambao tulipiga yes tunaomba msamaha," Namuar said.

This loosely translates to if there is a way we wronged you for us who voted Yes, we seek forgiveness.

Namuar said that Ruto acknowledges and listens to the voices of the people.

"Nampongeza  kwa sababu ya uongozi ambayo amedhibitisha siku ya leo kuwakikisha kila mkenya ameweza kujua ya kwamba rais ni mtu wa kuskiza maono yao," he stated.

On Wednesday, Ruto announced that he would not sign the highly contentious Finance Bill 2024, which had sparked mass protests across the country.

"Having reflected on the continuing conversation regarding the content of the Finance Bill 2024, and listening keenly to the people of Kenya who have said loudly that they want nothing to do with this Finance Bill 2024, I concede, and therefore I will not sign the 2024 finance bill," Ruto said during a televised address.

The President's decision came just a day after the Bill was passed by Parliament, despite nationwide demonstrations against it.
