Tributes pour for veteran journalist Mutegi Njau

Friends and families have taken to social media to pay their tributes to veteran journalist Mutegi Njau.

Mutegi died peacefully on Thursday evening at around 7 pm, his family confirmed.

His former co-host David Makali took to social media to remember him.

“Devastated by the passing on of senior colleague, co-host and panellist Mutegi Njau. May your toil on this earth be rewarded and your memory last forever among those you mentored and gifted, or who savoured your goodness,” Makali said.

Head of Deputy Presidential Communication Service Njeri Rugene mourned him saying:

"Mutegi Njau made an indelible mark in Kenya's Journalism. He trained many of us. He has left a rich legacy. It is time to rest. Rest in Peace Senior," Njeru Rugene said.

His journey in media began in 1979, with his passion blossoming from the days of Kenya's founding president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

ODM party Director of Communication Philip Etale in his tribute said:

"I remember his advice to me when he was my boss at Citizen TV “Etale, a good journalist writes facts and facts alone. You don’t need hearsay to make a good journalist, dig in deeper and you will be incredibly successful in your career”… RIP Mutegi Njau,"  Etale stated

Charles Mulilia mourned Mutegi saying:

"RIP Mutegi Njau. Best News Editor ever. Retired at Daily Nation. Quickly converted to a TV honcho. Versatile. Journalism will miss you,"

Media Industry Strategy and Innovation Consultant at the Center for Business Innovation and Training (CBIT) Edward  Mwasi also paid his tribute.

"A great media personality, Mutegi Njau, will be remembered for his dedication to professionalism. I will remember him as my senior and friend from our time working together at NMG in the late 90s when he was in command of the Nation newsdesk. May his soul rest in eternal peace," Mwasi said.

National general secretary of Kenya national private security workers union  KNPSWU) Isaac Adabwa said:

"Heartfelt commiseration to the family, colleagues and friends of the veteran journalist Mutegi Njau. The late Mutegi Njau's patrimony and impact on the media industry will forever be in our heritage. Fare Thee Well,"

MCA Kileleshwa  Robert Alai also shared his condolences.

"RIP Senior, Poleni to the family of Mutegi Njau!"
