Drama erupted during the burial of Magdalene Kalembe, former Kibwezi West MP late Kalembe Ndile widow on Friday.

Mayhem disrupted the proceedings after it turned into battlefield forcing mourners to scamper to safety.

Chaos erupted after Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse and Wiper nominated MCA Albanus Wambua nearly got into a near fist fight during the burial ceremony at Mbui Nzau village in Kibwezi West, Makueni County.

The melee started from a quarrel between the two legislators who sat closely during the ceremony with Makueni senator Dan Maanzo and Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior to their right.

Mutuse sat next to Maanzo before chaos erupted.

In a video footage obtained by the Star, Mutuse is seen talking to Wambua as he points at him in a manner showing disagreement.

Mutuse then stands and charges towards the MCA before he is shielded by a group of people while the MCA is equally restrained from reaching the MP.

Both of them are led out of the tent where they were sitting among other dignitaries.

Meanwhile, Maanzo and Kilonzo Junior, were whisked to safety immediately the mayhem started.

Mourners and other guests scampered to safety leaving the tents where they had sat during the burial ceremony exercise in disarray with chairs turned upside down.

Former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana joined some of the bereaved family members in shielding the deceased's casket as the scene turned chaotic.

Some of the mourners believed to be family members sobbed as the drama unfolded with some pleading with the warring groups to move away from the casket where their loved one lay.

"Tokeni hapo, tokeni hapo," they shouted.

The situation later normalised and the burial ceremony continued after mourners returned to the venue.

The Star couldn't immediately establish what the two politicians were wrangling for.
