Defence Cabinet Secretary Adan Duale has told leaders to exercise caution with what they say in public, while emphasising the deployment of KDF to help police in managing the protests.
“The National Police Service with the support of Kenya Defence Forces will protect critical infrastructure of the three arms of government and those of citizens. That is what the Constitution demands from us,” he stated.
“We are there to maintain peace and order. We do not control crowds but we want to make sure that Parliament is not destroyed; it is a critical constitutional infrastructure, the Office of the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court as well. Citizens have a right to protection too,” he added.
Duale regretted the destruction of property witnessed in Eastleigh, Moi Avenue, Luthuli Avenue, Tom Mboya Street, Rongai and Isinya and other parts of the country.
“So many Kenyans have had their properties destroyed. Lives have been lost too. We must protect our unity and peace,” he said.
The Defence CS also warned that reckless utterances will drive the country into deeper problems in the wake of anti-government protests across the country.
“All leaders should be careful with their utterances. Some of our neighbours were the most stable countries in Africa but where are they today,” he posed.
Duale noted that the youth have the right to protest but should know some criminals want to take advantage of their agitation to steal, kill and destroy property.
