Tens of armed anti-riot police officers have rescued a man suspected to have shot three demonstrators in Mombasa.
The police were called in to rescue the man after residents bayed for his blood.
He was rescued by DCI officers and sped off to an unknown destination.
The anti-riot police officers were forced to fire teargas canisters to disperse the crowd.
The suspect allegedly opened fire on a crowd of protesters along Nyerere Avenue in Mombasa.
He had reportedly retreated into the building that houses a restaurant in the Mombasa CBD.
Following the incident, fire vehicles were torched and the restaurant was vandalised.
