Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome on Wednesday found himself under fire after senators took to the floor of the House to discuss his silence at a time when the country is facing security threats.
From one speaker to another, the legislatures fingered the IG for blame over security issues facing the nation.
While speaking on the floor of the house, Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua claimed the IG has let Kenyans down.
“Mr Koome must leave office immediately for this country to enjoy peace and tranquility,” Wambua said.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale echoed the sentiments while calling upon the president to restructure the securing organ.
“The President should quickly restructure the security organs by firing people,” Khalwale said.
Senator Samson Cherarkey also criticised the IG for keeping quiet as anti-government demos continue to cause havoc in various parts of the country.
Since the demos began, the IG has never issued a statement regarding the security status of the country.
“The inspector general of police at least should have appeared regularly to update the county on the security situation,” he said.
Senate Majority Leader, Aaron Cheruiyot expressed concern over the IG's lack of public communication during critical moments.
“I am yet to hear the voice of the Inspector General, I am deeply troubled by that, it cannot be right,” Cheruiyot said.
“We must do a proper reshuffle on the security of this country, I agree with my colleagues that the inspector of police must be called out for failing to provide leadership,” Cherarkey added.
