Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has pledged his support for the families of victims killed during recent anti-Finance Bill protests

Speaking during an interview at Obinna TV, Murkomen promised to provide both financial and emotional assistance to the bereaved families.

"These situations are extremely regrettable. I will be happy to be part of a process of supporting those affected and stand with them," he said.

The demonstrations, which saw thousands take to the streets, were met with a heavy police presence, resulting in violent clashes, multiple casualties, and deaths.

Murkomen outlined his plan to provide immediate financial assistance in a manner that is not publicised adding that it isn't necessary to announce to the public.

"I will do it the biblical way. It will be in a manner that the left hand will not know what the right hand did," the CS said.

"For the families of those who lost their lives, the hope is that this support will provide some measure of relief as they navigate their grief and loss. My deepest condolences to all affected families," he concluded.

The government has faced significant criticism from human rights groups and the international community over its handling of the protests.

Many have called for an independent investigation into the actions of the police during the demonstrations and probing by IPOA on the deaths that occurred.

Murkomen addressed these concerns, assuring that a thorough and transparent inquiry would be conducted.

"You can hold me accountable for that," he remarked.

The CS further called for a national dialogue to address the underlying issues that led to the protests.

"We must come together as a nation to address these grievances and work towards a more just and equitable society," he said.
