Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has claimed that the current anti-government protests by the youth are a result of inaction by the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Kalonzo said Kenya would not be in this crisis if President William Ruto’s administration had listened and addressed the number one problem; the high cost of living.

He said the President would also have averted the crisis if he had fully implemented the National Dialogue Committee Report.

“Instead, they prevaricated. They dragged their feet. The Ruto regime showed no political goodwill,” the Wiper party leader said on X.

Kalonzo said the current administration should read the mood of the people and act accordingly.

“Kenya's Gen Z have set the standard and are demanding action,” he stated.

ODM party leader Raila Odinga has also emphasised the importance of fully implementing the Nadco Report.

Speaking during the signing of the IEBC Amendment Bill into law at the KICC on Tuesday, Raila highlighted the comprehensive nature of the Nadco report in tackling the critical issues raised by Gen Z.

“Nadco report contains very many issues, which are at the heart of the people of Kenya today,” he said.

The IEBC Amendment Bill is one of the key implementations that are a result of the National Dialogue Committee talks.

"If you see the issues which are being raised by our youths, most of them are contained on the Nadco report,” Raila added.

Major urban areas across have returned to an uneasy calm after days of protests over proposed tax increases and high cost of living during which dozens of people were reportedly killed.

The protests made international headlines as thousands of Gen Z and millennial demonstrators took to the streets demanding the withdrawal of the Finance Bill, 2024.

The protests pressured the government to drop the tax plans.

The government has blamed the country's economic challenges on foreign loans stating that it is using more than half of the revenue it collects to repay the debts.
