Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka now wants President William Ruto to order an immediate withdrawal of security officers in Nairobi streets.

Kalonzo emphasised the need for calm and normalcy across the country and especially in the city.

Speaking on Tuesday during the signing of the IEBC Bill, Kalonzo also called for the return of the military return to the barracks.

“Can you Mr president order the Inspector General of Police, if he doesn’t resign, can he remove the police from the streets. Can the Army get out of streets and back to the barracks?” he posed.

Kalonzo recounted how police made it difficult for them to access KICC for the event.

He said barricades had been placed by the security officers along major routes to the venue.

He, however, thanked the organisers for having it held at KICC as compared to State House.

"I can imagine if it was at State House, it would have been more harder," he said.

There was heavy police presence around KICC ahead of the event with major roads being closed to the public and even private vehicles.

Kalonzo's call comes amidst concerns over alleged militarisation of the country as a result of the recent protests.

Speaking recently during an interview, Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said the military officers have been withdrawn and can only deployed to protect critical installations.

The IEBC Bill, now an Act, is based on the recommendations of the NADCO report.
