Kenya Media Sector Working Group have expressed their commitment to facilitating genuine and transparent engagement on the key issues raised by Gen Zs during the recent protests.

They said open dialogue is essential for finding solutions and the media will play a crucial role in fostering this exchange.

Additionally, the media group expressed commitment to providing accurate, balanced and responsible reporting that reflects the diverse perspectives of Kenyans.

They noted that the recent protests against the Finance Bill were decentralized and without leadership, unlike previous demos.

“KMSWG is committed to providing balanced information that reflects diversity in perspectives. The recent protests had no leader unlike past demos,” said the media group

In their statement, they have said that they will announce a comprehensive plan to develop a platform where all Kenyans will engage on critical issues affecting the nation.

KMSWG went further to condemn the brutal response to peaceful protests that resulted in the deaths and injuries of protesters and journalists and also alleged threats by the government to shut down media organizations.

This, the say, underscores the urgency of the moment and the need to comprehensively and sustainably address the issues.

However, they have commended the government for withdrawing the Finance Bill which they say, demonstrates a willingness by the government to listen and adapt.

The group has urged all leaders, from national and local levels to be accountable to the people they serve and ensure the debate on the issues raised by Kenyans progresses constructively, without further harm to the people or the nation.
