The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party now says that its leader Raila Odinga has once again prioritised the country's interest by calling for dialogue with President William Ruto.

In a statement on Wednesday, the party, through chairman John Mbadi said that the former Prime Minister did what he has always done for the country.

"In making the call, the party leader did what he always does. Raila Odinga always helps the country pull back from the precipice whenever we find ourselves there.

"There can be no doubt that as a country, we are at a crossroads and approaching a precipice. One of us has to be the magnanimous and patriotic enough to help call the country to order," Mbadi said.

He noted that despite this, Raila is once again being called names.

Mbadi said that he has held consultations with Raila and they are in agreement that his decision is for the best of Kenya.

He said that it will also help address emerging issues in a structured way.

The nominated MP urged all members of the ODM party and other groups that are allied to it to support their position.

"As a party, we are an organisation and disciplined organisation. We believe in order. We believe in command. The Party has spoken.

"His proposals will ensure accountability, including timelines within which the issues agreed on must be realised."

The statement is in response to the backlash witnessed on social media over calls to hold a six-day dialogue next week.

President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila agreed to commence a six-day multi-sectorial forum.

The forum, set to begin on Monday, July 15  and conclude on Saturday, will foster national dialogue and seek lasting solutions to Kenya's pressing issues.

Ruto emphasised the importance of the forum stating that it will propose the way forward for the country.

“This forum will begin on Monday, next week and end on Saturday next week, it will be a 6-day forum and will propose the way forward for the country,” Ruto said

The ODM leader reiterated the importance of the forum, saying that it will give Kenyans a chance to be heard.

"Dialogue is the way forward out of the crisis we're having in our country," Raila added.

"We have agreed that we give people an opportunity to be heard, to express themselves so that a lasting solution can be found."
