The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU - K) has welcomed the move by President Ruto to dissolve the Cabinet.

Cotu SG Francis Atwoli in a statement on Thursday said the decision by Ruto marks a significant step towards what he termed as a much-needed rebirth.

"This bold and decisive action is a modern approach to addressing the grievances and aspirations of the Kenyan people," Atwoli said.

He noted that it is time for the President to have a team that not only defends the policies of the government but also effectively articulates the needs and priorities of the nation.

"The challenges we face require a Cabinet composed of competent and experienced Kenyans who are committed to serving the interests of all citizens," he said.

According to Cotu boss, the Cabinet should have people who answer calls from the public for accountability purposes and consultations.

He further noted that the country requires 'servants of the people' and not 'bosses full of ego and hungry for power'.

Atwoli has however called on the President to national unity and inclusivity as he embarks on the process of forming a new Cabinet.

"The new Cabinet should reflect the diverse fabric of our society, ensuring that it must be all-inclusive and broadly representative."

This comes hours after President Ruto dissolved his Cabinet, sending home all Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General.

The decision does not affect Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

"I have decided to dismiss with immediate effect all cabinet secretaries and attorney general of the Cabinet of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs," Ruto said.

"And of course, the office of the Deputy President is not affected in any way."

The president said the affairs of the Ministries will henceforth be coordinated by Principal Secretaries until a definitive cabinet is appointed.

The Head of State said the new cabinet will be named after extensive consultations across all sectors.
