At least four people were Thursday, July 11 morning killed in a fire incident in the Manyatta B area, Kisumu County.

The deceased included two adults and two minors, police and locals said.

The victims were sleeping in their structures within the sprawling area when the fire broke out at about 3 am sweeping through about 20 houses.

The cause of the fire is yet to be known, police said adding an investigation into the incident had been launched.

Police from Kasagam police station were alerted that there was a fire at Manyatta B Ward along the Nairobi-Nyamasaria Road and responded to the scene.

A fire engine joined efforts to contain the fire, which was sweeping through iron sheet-made structures.

It was after the officials had contained the fire that they discovered the remains of the four.

They were not immediately identified and the bodies were moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.

Several locals were left homeless by the fire incident, officials said adding they need food and shelter.

The victims were taken to a local church for temporary shelter as they waited for help, police said.

Police were later in the day expected at the scene to commence investigations into the incident.

Meanwhile,  a fire that broke out at a restaurant along Banda Street, Nairobi was contained.

No injuries were reported in the Wednesday evening incident, police said.

Some of the revellers present were evacuated as smoke billowed from the ground floor of the facility in the 5 pm incident.

Police said the fire broke out from the ground floor of the building as a result of an electric fault.

A crowd watched from a distance as the fire engine battled to contain the spread of the fire.

In the Ngara area, Nairobi, a fire broke out at an apartment burning down valuables.

The owner of the house said it broke out as he cooked.

The fire was contained before it spread.

Police said the fire burnt down household goods of unknown value.

No injuries were reported and investigations into the same are ongoing, police said.
