Nairobi County Assembly ODM MCAs have defended President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s push for a dialogue with the youth saying it is a way out of the current crisis.

Led by Majority Leader Peter Imwatok, the ward reps said they are optimistic that multi-sectoral dialogue will provide lasting solutions.

They further said Raila means well for Gen Zs and the country as a whole, stating that he has dedicated his life to ensuring that Kenya is peaceful.

"Baba is peace-loving leader and when he agrees to come together with President Ruto and other sectors for an engagement with our Gen Zs, it is a noble thing. Let's engage on X space but we also allow this multi-sectoral approach so that they can listen and act on issues at hand,” said Imwatok.

The President on Friday asked various stakeholders to submit their representatives for the engagement.

“We have had consultations and agreed that, to bring the country together to focus on the issues of priority, we will move ahead with the multi-sectoral forum,” Imwatok added.

According to the work plan, the dialogue will commence next week on Monday.

Ruto welcomed political parties and all other stakeholders to work with the government in forging a new path for the country.

“As a way of charting the future from the current situation, I welcome all leaders and other stakeholders to work together to address the current economic situation through a broad-based political arrangement and to rally the country forward,” Imwatok said.

The multi-sectoral committee to discuss the country's way forward will consist of 150 members, 50 of them being the youth. Other members of the committee will be religious and political leaders.

The forum will give the youth and other stakeholders a platform to discuss national challenges among them the high cost of living.
