Police seize bhang worth Sh16m in Mombasa, four suspects arrested

The directorate of criminal investigations based in the Coast region has seized bhang worth Sh16 million from 4 suspected drug traffickers.

The four were arrested from their hideout in the Fisheries area of Bamburi in Mombasa County on Friday.

DCI has said they were able to locate the suspects’ location through the help of citizens who alerted them.

“Responding to a tip-off from vigilant citizens, detectives located the suspects’ house and while therein conducted a meticulous search that unearthed cannabis sativa,” DCI said.

The 554.05 kg of bhang was packed in 8 green polythene gunny sacks,8 multi-coloured Nigerian bags and 1 white polythene bag.

According to DCI, the 4 were arrested following an intelligence/led operation by detectives from the anti-narcotics unit coast region, RCIO coast operations and officers from Bamburi Police Station.

A vehicle believed to be used in the crime was also impounded.

The suspects together with the recovered narcotics were escorted to the Coast Regional Police Headquarters for further legal action.

“We have detained the 4 suspects, the narcotics and a motor vehicle we believed was used in crime at the Coast Regional Police Headquarters” indicated DCI
