Police have warned the public against spreading false information on X regarding the identity of the prime suspect in the Kware killings.

In a statement, DCI boss Mohamed Amin said some Kenyans have taken to social media and discredited the version of details issued earlier on Monday regarding the arrest of a 33-year-old man believed to be the key suspect in the murders.

He said a social media user, for instance, posted the images and names of an innocent Kenyan claiming that he's the actual prime suspect in the macabre killings of women whose bodies were found in a dumpsite in Nairobi's Mkuru kwa Njenga slums.

"Specifically, one on his X account carelessly and with total disregard to the need to verify information, indicated that there existed no public record of our suspect, and went ahead to post the names, images and description of another innocent Kenyan," Amin said.

Amin said that after the post went viral, the complainant, a 24-year-old graduate from a university in Meru, surrendered himself to detectives for clearance from any culpability in the ongoing investigation.

Amin said the complainant is a bachelor's degree holder who undertook the course between 2019 and 2023.

"According to the complainant, he had received the circulating posts from worried family members and friends while at his workplace in Nairobi, forcing him to rush to our offices fearing for his life in case he fell into the hands of agitated persons in the case of mistake of fact," Amin said.

The DCI boss clarified that the complainant is not a criminal and neither is he wanted by the DCI for any reason.

He further assured Kenyans that the ongoing investigations are methodical and thorough.

Amin said detectives are keen to ensure that any information originating from the police is credible and well-verified.

The top sleuth further revealed that they have reached out to the mother of the first victim who the suspect calimed was his wife to record a statement on her daughter's disappearance.

The prime suspect was arrested at dawn on Monday outside a club Kayole's Soweto area where he had allegedly gone to watch the Euro 2024 final match.

Amin said he stays about 500 metres from the Kware dumpsite where at least ten badly mutilated bodies of women were recovered.

Amin said he confessed to have killed 42 women between 2022 and Jukly 11, 2024.

A search in his one-room rental house led to the recovery of a machete, 12 nylon sacks, a pair of industrial rubber gloves, two female panties, four cleat sellotapes, a nylon rope, eight smartphones, a laptop, a hard drive and 24 SIM cards.

Detectives said they were able to apprehend the suspect by following a money trail from his latest victim.

“As we were apprehending him this morning, he was in the process of luring another victim. As investigations progress, we shall be able to get hold of the victim,” Amin said.

“We are likely to arrest more suspects because we believe that he was not alone in the commission of this reprehensible act and very soon we shall be able to arrest them. We shall cast the net wider.”
