Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on religious leaders to pray for the president as he finds people to appoint to his Cabinet.

According to Gachagua, God has given him (President William Ruto) an opportunity to pick the right people who are not arrogant, or corrupt but who are patriotic and committed to serving the people.

Emphasising the move taken to dissolve the cabinet, Gachagua termed it a pragmatic and courageous decision.

“I want to ask the church and all Christians to pray for our president to pick the right people,” he stated.

“A leader is as good as a team that supports that leader that is why we fully support him,” he said.

The DP made the remarks during the burial of Bishop Allan Kiuna at JCC Thindigua in Kiambu.

"Our president needs your prayers. Are you going to pray for him? I am sure God will be merciful to him, he will get God's favour to pick a good team to put our country on the right trajectory," he added.

Ruto dismissed Thursday last week all Cabinet Secretaries save for Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

He stated that he would engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations and with other Kenyans at large.

"During this process, the operations of government will continue uninterrupted under the guidance of Principal Secretaries and other relevant officials," he said.

Gachagua's remark comes a few days after Ruto also appealed to the church to pray for him as he reconstituted the cabinet.

Speaking during a church service at A.I.P.C.A Ndogino, Nyandarua County, the head of state said he needs guidance as he appoints new workers, to help steer the nation towards the right direction.

"Hii serikali iko hapa mbele muniombee ndio nipate wafanyikazi watakaonisaidia kutimiza ahadi tuliwekeana mimi na nyinyi," he said.

He said he wants to transform the nation, into one that does not need loans to progress and is not in debt.
