Social media influencer Francis Gaitho has been charged with publishing false information claiming the DCI arrested the wrong person as the prime suspect in the Kware killings.

Francis Nganga Gaitho was accused that on July 15, 2024, at around 1400 hours while at an unknown place using his X social media account, he intentionally published false information.

The prosecution alleged that Gaitho wrote the information with the intent that the data would be considered or acted upon as authentic.

Gaitho faced a second count that on the same dates and place while using his X account he published false information on an innocent Kenyan over the Kware killings when he knowingly or ought to have known that such publicatioms would cause the person's apprehension and violence to him, damage or loss of his property.

He denied the charges before Milimani senior principal magistrate Robinson Ondieki and pleaded for lenient bond terms.

Gaitho through his lawyer told the court that he was not a flight risk as he was arrested at his home.

The DPP, however, asked the court to have Gaitho deposit his passport in court.

He was released on a cash bail of Sh30,000. The case will be mentioned on August 1.
