Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has released the March/April Competency-Based Education and Training assessment results in a move towards enhancing technical and vocational education and training.

The results of the March/April 2024 Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) assessment marked a milestone in the evaluation of skills and competencies across 131 TVET Assessment Centers.

Speaking at the event Mudavadi acknowledged the importance of fostering strong ties with stakeholders to ensure that programmes in the curriculum are co-developed with the industry.

"We understand that the success of CBET curriculum is closely tied to our collaboration with the industry sector," he said.

From March 11 to April 19, 20,122 candidates were assessed in 193 qualifications, covering 2,333 units of competency.

This represented a remarkable 181 per cent increase from the November/December 2023 assessment, showcasing the rapid growth and successful implementation of the CBET curriculum.

The assessment results also highlighted a positive trend in female participation, particularly at higher levels.

"I note with appreciation the affirmative action that has led to increased female trainee enrolment at levels four to six," Mudavadi said.

At level three, 153 candidates were assessed, with 112 (73 per cent) being male and 41 (27 per cent) being female.

The National Skills Certificate comprised 13 qualifications with 77 units of competency.

At level four, the Artisan Certificate assessment saw 2,179 candidates, with a closer gender distribution: 1,169 (54 per cent) were male, and 1,010 (46 per cent) were female.

This level encompassed 32 qualifications and 322 units of competency.

Additionally, level five saw 6,715 candidates assessed.

Female candidates outnumbered males, with 4,041 (60 per cent) being female and 2,674 (40 per cent) being male.

The Craft Certificate comprised 53 qualifications with 660 units of competency.

The highest level, level six, assessed 11,075 candidates, again showing a balanced gender distribution: 5,246 (47 per cent) male and 5,829 (53 per cent) female.

The Diploma certificate comprised 95 qualifications with 1,274 units of competency.

The event also marked the launch of the TVET CDACC Strategic Plan for the 2023-2027 period. 

The plan encompassed a comprehensive plan, which outlined the vision, goals, and strategies for the next five years,

The Prime CS added that it is a roadmap that will guide the TVET Sector in key areas such as curriculum development; assessment and certification; research and innovation; ICT integration, and industry linkages. 

"Together, we can build a robust TVET system that not only meets the needs of our economy but also empowers our youth and secures our nation’s future," he said

TVET PS Esther Muoria said as the CBET curriculum continues to be implemented, the focus remains on providing quality education and equitable opportunities for all trainees, preparing them to meet the demands of a dynamic workforce.

"Notably, CBET has positively impacted technical skilling and training,"  Muoria said.
