Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has reassured Kenyans that the president has heard their concerns and is ready to act on them.

Mwaura said there was a need for the protesters to now call off the protests and allow the process to take place.

“The president and the whole government have heard your concerns loud and clear, we are ready to act on it,” he said.

Addressing the press on Thursday, Mwaura also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the dialogue process as he urged parents to take the lead role in this.

He said parents should start by engaging their children at home to avoid engaging in violence.

“We have said we are ready for dialogue but as parents let us start by talking to our children at our homes,” he said.

“Let us not destroy our country, we do not have another country that we love and which we have inherited from our forefathers and freedom fighters just because of problems that can be addressed."

Mwaura further stressed the importance of media houses to be objective in reporting the ongoing protests in the country.

He said as a government, they respect the independence of the media and will not in any way interfere with their mandate.

"We are ready to have a conversation with you so that we can ensure you perform your duties effectively without any bias," Mwaura said.
