Ministry of Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni lauded institutions like Amref for making remarkable strides in training professional health workers.

Muthoni said the university's theme serves as a reminder that even as health workers are trained, there needs to be an emphasis on training diverse and competitive professionals who can work across communities and borders to solve unique and arising health issues.

"Disease outbreaks can originate from anywhere, health workers must now think beyond their local communities in preventing the spread of disease. Since we know the quality that Amref stands for, we are very confident that students graduating here today are of high quality to fit and deliver globally," Muthoni said.

Additionally, she congratulated the graduating class and noted the government has established a task force aimed at addressing challenges faced by health workers and ensuring they acquire jobs.

AMIU was established in 2017 and is a Pan-African university of health sciences fully owned by Amref Health Africa.

The university offers postgraduate, undergraduate, higher diploma, diploma, and certificate programmes, and courses which serve to prepare human resources for health to serve throughout the health system.
