The IEBC selection will be gazetted by Tuesday next week to kick-start the process of recruiting new commissioners.

National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang'ula said all bodies mandated to second names to the panel are expected to do so by Friday this week.

"By the close of the week, we shall have all names, and send them to the President for gazettement by Tuesday, " Wetang'ula said.

The speaker addressed a press conference at Parliament Buildings on Monday.

Among the bodies expected to second names are the Parliamentary Service Commission, Law Society of Kenya, Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya, Political Parities Liaison Committee and Inter-Religious Council.

According to the newly amended IEBC (Amendment) Act, 2023, PSC will nominate two names, ICPAK and LSK will send one name each, IRC will send two names and PPLC forward three names to the panel.

According to Wetang'ula, the panel should be in place within 14 days after the President signed the IEBC (Amendment) Bill, 2023 into law.

Once gazetted, the panel will invite Kenyans to apply for the positions of chairman and Commissioner.

The panel will then shortlist candidates for interviews.

The IEBC has remained without the chair and commissioners since January last year.
