Kisumu West MP Rosa Buyu has endorsed Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo for the position of Minority Leader in the National Assembly

MP Buyu said that Millie is distinguished for her contribution and debate in the House.

Her statement on Wednesday was backed by a majority of women leaders in Parliament.

If considered for the position, Millie will replace Ugenya MP Opiyo Wandayi who was nominated for the position of Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary.

"As a woman who has been at the forefront of the women's movement, I want to take this opportunity as a key member of ODM and Azimio, I want to take the opportunity to announce the new leader of Minority Millie Odhiambo," she said.

"Nobody should tell me that I have no authority to do that, I have been in ODM since its formation in 2005 and I have seen women to be so loyal to ODM and Azimio. It is time that a woman is allowed to lead this party in the House."

The women legislators were heard stomping their feet in unison for the proposal.

However, Tiaty MP William Kamket asked MP Buyu to concentrate on the motion that was being debated.

Soon after MP Buyu's sentiments, Odhiambo stood up and sat at Wandayi's seat sending the Parliament to a brief laughter.

Commenting on the matter, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah hilariously said members can sit anywhere in the House.

"Membesr are a bit excited because of the communication you made especially considering that there are a number of nominees who are members of this House and it is premature of us to get excited because we are expected to vet the nominees," Ichung'wah said.

"I could only take this opportunity to congratulate Millie who I see has taken over a sit, not a position and any member can sit anywhere by the way.

Millie said that it is time for women to occupy seats and hold others to account.

"Nishachukua hii imeenda," she said.

On Wednesday, President William Ruto nominated some members from the opposition to cabinet.

He named Hassan Joho for the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy, Wycliffe Oparanya for Cooperatives and MSME Development and John Mbadi for the Ministry of National Treasury.

He further nominated Kipchumba Murkomen for the Ministry of Youths and Sports, Rebecca Miano for the Ministry of Tourism, Justin Muturi for the Ministry of Public Service, Salim Mvurya to head the Ministry of Trade and Alfred Mutua for the Ministry of Labour.
