Detectives are investigating an incident in which a 67-year-old man is suspected to have been killed in cold blood on his farm in Hindi, Lamu County.

The incident happened on Saturday, July 27 afternoon in Bobo Sublocation, police said.

The body of Julius Baya Mweri was found at the farm he had been working on minutes after the suspected murder.

The motive of the incident is yet to be established, police said.

He had been with his son at the farm when the incident happened.

The son told police he excused himself to go and chase monkeys that were destroying their maize at the farm.

The son said he was shocked when he returned minutes later and found his father lying dead with two deep cuts on his forehead.

Police visited the scene and removed the body to Mpeketoni Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

A team was sent to the scene to pursue the motive and make arrests.

The area is among those near the Kenya-Somalia border that face sporadic attacks by terror groups and interested parties who are eyeing land there.

As part of efforts to address the insecurity, more roads and other social amenities have been established in the area.

More security measures have been put in place to address the menace, officials say.

Some of the attackers use nearby Boni Forest as their hiding place for their mission.

Meanwhile, police in Embakasi, Nairobi are holding a suspect who fatally assaulted a 50-year-old man in an altercation.

Police said one Edward Mwangi, also known as Mandi, 50, a resident of the Kinker area, was seriously assaulted by a man known to him in the altercation.

He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Utawala Health Centre, where he received first aid and was later referred to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for further treatment.

He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in the Saturday afternoon incident.

Police officers visited the facility and found the body at the hospital morgue with visible injuries on the head, mouth, and left leg.

The body and primary scene were documented and the suspect arrested for interrogation and possible prosecution.
