The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has proposed Suna East Junet Mohammed to take up the position of Minority Leader in the National Assembly.

The position will be vacated by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi upon appointment by President William Ruto as Energy Cabinet Secretary.

Mohammed, who has been the Minority Whip will be replaced by Suba North Millie Odhiambo.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi will take up the role of chair, the Public Accounts Committee left vacant by Nominated MP John Mbadi. Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo will take up the seat of chair, the Public Investments Committee.

The changes are part of resolutions reached by ODM’s Central Management Committee which was chaired by party leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday.

“The party has officially released its officials who were recently tapped by President William Ruto for national duty as Cabinet Secretaries. I can confirm that I have received the resignations of John Mbadi as national chairperson, Opiyo Wandayi as secretary for political affairs, Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho as deputy party leaders and Beatrice Askul Moe as member of the party elections committee,” read a statement by secretary general Edwin Sifuna.

ODM will propose the names to the Azimio Parliamentary Group.

In the statement, Sifuna was quick to note that there was no agreement between ODM and Kenya Kwanza.

“ODM therefore remains a member of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition and will continue to play its Opposition role alongside other parties to push for accountability, transparency and equity in governance and public affairs,” he said.

He added that in the wake of the vacancies, the party will be embarking on wide consultations amongst its members to fill the positions.
