Education Cabinet Secretary nominee Julius Ogamba has assured MPs that he is passionate about the public sector.
Appearing before the Committee on Appointments, Ogamba said he comes from a humble background and has seen what education can do.
“I am very passionate about the public sector. As I sit here, I have educated over 600 children, they have gone to various universities and schools,” he said.
“I know when you disadvantage a child, you have taken away their life. Education is the only thing that can help children in this country to move to where they are supposed to be.”
The nominee said education is the only thing that can move Kenyan children to where they are supposed to be.
“If you are in the sector, you must ask yourself decision that I am making, is for the benefit and interest of the child. If the answer is no and you are in the public sector, then you are in the wrong place” he added.
Ogamba has addressed concerns regarding his suitability to lead the Education Ministry, asserting that his perceived inexperience in the public sector should not be an issue of concern.
