Cabinet Secretary nominee for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Hassan Joho has said that he did not do well in his secondary school education but he is glad that he turned that around.

According to Joho, he now holds two degrees and is on his way to graduating with a Masters degree from one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

"I had a D(minus) but I have managed to turn that around," he said.

He explained that he did not have an easy upbringing and he had to contribute to paying for his school fees.

Joho said that at one point, his headteacher allowed him to leave school early because he needed to work to raise school fees.

"I was the only student who was allowed to leave school early because I had to work."

Joho added that he drew his inspiration from Prof. Ali Mazrui who overcame many challenges to be a renowned scholar.
