The government has committed to ensure more young people gain skills to keep up with the rising demand for workers globally.

Labour and Skills Development PS Shadrack Mwadime said there is a huge demand for domestic workers in developed and developing countries.

"The social, economic and political pillars of the government’s agenda and vision are anchored on the existence of a skilful, productive, competitive and adaptive human resource base," he said.

The PS said these workers make a significant socioeconomic contribution to the employer, themselves, their families and the countries.

Mwadime spoke in Sotik, Bomet, on Thursday during the National Industrial Training Authority-Sotik NG-CDF graduation ceremony.

Sotik MP Francis Sigei and Nita acting director general Theresa Wasike attended.

Mwadime said Nita has been playing a big role in imparting skills to the trainees.

"Since its establishment, the authority has consistently endeavoured to meet the ever-changing industry dynamics, training young Kenyans and equipping them with technical skills necessary for our country’s development," he said.

The PS said the graduands are now equipped with skills to forge ahead in their path.

"It is the beginning of the realisation of one's purpose in life. I am sure you have also learned the principles of integrity, innovation and patriotism through this programme," he said.

Sigei said the training of the 52 students cost the NG-CDF Sh2.8 million.
