Chaos erupted Thursday morning outside Meru County Assembly after two factions of supporters clashed.
Supporters of Governor Kawira Mwangaza turned up and gathered outside the precincts of the building as security officers kept vigil.
"Warudi..jaribuuu..kama ni kuingia ni sisi wote (Let them go back..if it's entering, we'll all go in)," one group was heard saying.
Another group with face masks was heard singing "Bye Bye Kawira"
The supporters turned up at the Assembly on a day the motion to remove her from office was debated by the members.
The 5th notice of motion to impeach the governor was tabled Thursday last week by nominated MCA Zipporah Kinya.
Kinya, the deputy majority leader, is the mover of the previous impeachment motion.
The tabling of the motion comes amid a debacle between the county assembly members and the governor.
On Wednesday last week, Meru High Court through Judge Linus Kassan Poghon said Njuri Ncheke should handle the case.
Njuri Ncheke however distanced themselves from the case.
But, through its Secretary Josphat Murangiri, Njuru Ncheke said they do not have the mandate or capability to stop an impeachment motion.
"We did not move to court or ask for any matter to be brought to us," Murangiri said.
The Meru County Assembly said the matter was a constitutional issue, therefore, it was wrong for the Meru High Court to treat it as a civil case by wanting intervention by Njuri Ncheke.
She accused the governor of three counts; gross violation of the constitution of Kenya 2010, gross misconduct and abuse of office.
"Honourable Speaker, take notice that I Zipporah Kinya, a member of the county assembly of Meru, propose to move the impeachment motion attached hereto in the county assembly dated 31st July and signed by myself," Kinya said.
