Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has expressed confidence that he will be vindicated in the face of recent accusations by Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli over county expenditure.

Speaking at a university students' convention in Tongaren, Lusaka revealed that investigations by various state agencies are already underway and urged the senator to exercise patience.

"You have made serious allegations that are evidently baseless. What you need to do now is wait for the outcome," Lusaka stated.

The governor reiterated that he is neither irrational nor uninformed to be involved in such outrageous claims.

He also emphasised his readiness to resign if found culpable, and that Wakoli should equally be held accountable if the allegations are proven false.

On July 27, 2024, Wakoli asked the Standing Committee on Finance to probe how the Bungoma county government spent Sh148 million set aside for the Madaraka Day celebrations.

This year’s national event was held at the Masinde Muliro Stadium in Bungoma county.

Wakoli wants the governor to come clear and explain to the electorate how he spent the money claiming the entire budget for the fete was catered for by the national government.

"I will continue to demand transparency regarding the expenditure of funds in Bungoma county’’ stated Wakoli.

On youth-related matters, Lusaka reassured the youth of Bungoma that the county government is committed to ensuring that 30 per cent of tenders are awarded to them.

However, he criticised the tendency of some youths to sell these tenders after winning them.

Additionally, the governor pledged to provide internship opportunities for university students, noting that the county government has already implemented an internship policy
