A faction of Azimio coalescing around Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyaka has disowned opposition boss Raila Odinga as the coalition’s leader.

Speaking on Sunday, the team which included Kalonzo, and DAP-K party leader Eugene Walalwa said they are preparing for 2027 without Raila.

The team said Azimio would not fold or join the government despite Raila working closely with President William Ruto under the broad-based government.

“I can clearly say that Raila has decided to go to AU, we wish him well, we are not going to work without him," said Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.

“We are not going to AU with Raila we shall remain here in Kenya and remain united with Kenyans to ensure that all is well."

Kioni said that although some opposition figures have joined the Kenya Kwanza government, those around Kalonzo will stand up to be counted.

“We shall remain with those who are crying that the country is headed in the wrong direction, it is not in doubt where we are going because the leader of Azimio is with us here and is Kalonzo Musyoka,"  he said.

Kalonzo said Azimio is determined and clear about where the coalition is going, refuting claims of facing dilemmas.

“Some are saying we are softening, others are saying we are at the crossroads, please disabuse anybody who is thinking we are softening," Kalonzo said.

“We have been here before and we know where we are going, we want to tell Kenyans that we are with them."

The leaders spoke in Embu, addressing the media ahead of their church service in Kagio, Kirinyaga County.

Wamalwa said that Azimio has released those leaders who have decided to work with the government saying the rest will remain under the leadership of Kalonzo.

“Us we remain under the leadership of Musyoka to check the government, without a strong opposition we will create a dictatorship," he said.

“We are going to stand with the people and remain the people’s opposition, we wish Mzee(Raila) well as he is going to Addis Ababa, we see he is gaining momentum, we see him succeeding and we wish him to succeed as he goes to AU," Wamalwa said.
