Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has implored staff at the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to adhere to good corporate governance practices.

Speaking during her maiden tour of KWS as CS on Wednesday, Miano said KWS staff must also maintain effective communication with all stakeholders, particularly communities hosting wildlife or living adjacent to parks and reserves.

“By embracing best practices in corporate governance, we ensure seamless service delivery and enhanced efficiency in service delivery. That is the only way to inspire confidence among Kenyans, stakeholders, employees, and our valued customers,” she said.

Present were the State Department for Wildlife PS, Sylvia Musieya, KWS Director General Erustus Kanga, and the management and staff of KWS.

Miano said every KWS employee, whether civilian or uniformed plays a vital role in driving the organisation forward.

“My vision is to see a vibrant KWS committed to delivering tangible deliverables. To that end you can count on my support,” she assured.

Miano said she was impressed by the commitment of all the staff at KWS for ensuring that Kenya is the pride of Africa with regard to wildlife conservation.

“Soon I will visit our national parks to familiarise myself with what each of them has to offer and interact with field staff whom I now know work in remote and difficult environments yet they still give their best,” she said.

The CS added that she is longing for the implementation of KWS’s strategic plan saying it heralds progress and excellence.

“You can count on my unreserved support as you undertake your work. My simple request is that you uphold integrity and diligence in the conduct of your duties,” she maintained.

Miano urged the staff to support the government’s quest to improve the quality of life among the citizenry by embracing the spirit and letter of the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda.
