Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged the leaders of the people of Mount Kenya to unite for the sake of development.
Gachagua spoke in Kiambu on Wednesday during the burial of two relatives of Kiambu senator Karungo Thangwa.
Gachagua called for the unity of purpose, stating that this is the time to deliver campaign promises.
"What I'm calling for is the unity of purpose and we should stop fighting each other," Gachagua said
He noted that he is keen on pushing for the interest of the Mount Kenya region.
The DP gave an analogy of the story between a rabbit and a hyena and how the hyena was tricked into fighting his wife.
Gachagua further said that he has no issue with the opposition being welcomed by the Kenya Kwanza government.
He said that he will continue supporting the people of Mount Kenya region, noting that he will talk at the right time and advise the community on the way forward.
"A time will come and I will talk and I know you will listen to me, support leaders who are pushing for the interest of the community, "Gachagua said
Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria echoed Gachagua's sentiments and called for unity.
"The error of the politics of succession should not divide the community,'' he said.
The DP was accompanied by a section of Mount Kenya MPs, including Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri) and James Gakuya (Embakasi North).
During the event, Kiambaa MP Njuguna Kawanjiku clarified that he has no personal differences with Gachagua.
The MP said Gachagua is the regional leader and that is respected.
"There have been debates that I have differences with the deputy president but that is not the case, I'm fully behind Gachagua and President William Ruto " Kawanjiku said
Nyandarua Senator John Methu said that all leaders of Mount Kenya will support the broad-based government.
He said Gachagua should work with all leaders and urged him to seek friends outside the Mount Kenya region.
"Our deputy president, kindly reach out to all leaders across the county, and we are fully behind you and the president, "Methu said.
