The Legio Maria Church has said President William Ruto’s decision to appoint members of the Opposition to his Cabinet is a significant step towards unity and progress in Kenya.

Rt. Rev. Wycliffe Nyaperah said the move to form a broad-based government will go a long way in addressing some of the country’s most pressing challenges.

“I also want to express my deep appreciation to the Gen Zs. Your passionate demonstrations have been instrumental in driving the positive changes we are witnessing in our nation,” he said.

Nyaperah, who has since been transferred from Lugari Diocese and appointed Director of Youth Affairs at the church, said he is immensely proud of Gen Zs commitment and activism.

“Just the same way Gen Z lawyers, Doctors and other professionals stood with you, I did the same from the clergy side. Thank you for your continued efforts and dedication to shaping a better future for Kenya,” he added in a statement.

Ruto dissolved the Cabinet recently and constituted a new one that accommodated members from the Opposition.

He appointed ODM's former deputy party leaders Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, former national chairman John Mbadi and ex-National Assembly minority leader Opiyo Wandayi to his Cabinet.

Joho is Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs; Mbadi heads the National Treasury; Oparanya Cooperatives and MSME Development CS nominee while Wandayi is in charge of the Energy and Petroleum docket.

The four ODM leaders were until their appointment some of Ruto's fiercest critics.

Council of Governors chair Anne Waiguru has also supported Ruto’s decision to constitute a broad-based government.

The Kirinyaga county boss said the new government will go a long way in unifying the country, and put a stop to divisive politics.

On Friday, Nyaperah told the youth not to allow anyone to look down on them because they are young.

He said the youth should be at the forefront of setting examples that drive the country forward.
