A three-day national mourning in honor of the Hillside Academy victims commences today.

President William Ruto proclaimed on Friday.

During this period, the Kenyan national flag and that of the East African Community will be flown at half-mast at the State House, all Kenyan diplomatic Missions, public buildings, public grounds, all military bases, posts, stations, all Naval vessels of the Republic of Kenya and throughout the entire territory of the Republic of Kenya.

This happens at a time when the search for the missing pupils continues.

At least 21 pupils have been confirmed dead as a result of the Thursday, September 5 night fire incident at the school.

Postmortem is set to be conducted beginning today.

Acting IG Masengeli day in court

Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli is expected to appear in court today to explain why he has disobeyed court orders following the disappearance of three men in Kitengela.

The judge last week pushed the matter to today after court proceedings were hijacked by activists.

If Masengeli fails to turn up, this will be the fourth time he will have snubbed court summons.

Mugambi had on August 28 directed the Inspector General of Police, DPP, AG, DCI and National Intelligence Service to immediately disclose the whereabouts of Bob Micheni, Jamil Longton and Aslam Longton to the Law Society of Kenya which has filed the case in court.
