Alarm as five die by suicide over the weekend

Five people died by suicide in separate incidents reported to police over the weekend.

The bodies of the victims were discovered separately on Sunday, September 8 in incidents police term as alarming.

The first incident was reported in Mukuyuni area, Makueni County where one Patrick Kiio Mwendo aged 19 died by suicide after he hanged himself with a piece of clothing at his father’s homestead within Ukonze village.

Police said they are yet to establish the motive of the incident.

The body was picked up and taken to a local mortuary pending autopsy.

In Bahati, Subukia, Nakuru County, 37-year-old Boniface Kariuki Njuguna died by suicide in a shocking incident.

The incident happened in Biblioni area where the body was found hanging on a barbed wire that was tied around his neck.

The wire hung on one of the roof rafters in his father’s house.

A suicide note was found at the scene but the contents were not made public.

 The body was removed to the mortuary for postmortem examination.

In Imbiakalo, Kakamega County, one Emmanuel Kitala Muhatia, 58, died by suicide by hanging himself with a manila rope on a mango tree.

The incident happened in Bulupi Village, police said.

No suicide note was found at the scene when the body was picked up to the mortuary for autopsy.

In Kanyariri, Kabete, Kiambu county, 24-year-old Samuel Mwangi Kimani died by suicide by plunging into a dam.

Divers who were in the vicinity of the dam rushed and rescued him but he died at the Wangige Level Four Hospital.

Police said no suicide note was found and the motive of the incident is yet to be known.

The body with no visible injuries, was taken to St. Theresa Mission Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy.

In Naromoru, Nyeri County,  one  Julius Mwangi Karue, 64 who was a resident of Gitinga village died suicide by hanging himself using a sisal rope that was tied around his neck on a tree in his farm.

Police officers visited the scene and found the lifeless body dangling on a tree.

No suicide note was found and the motive of the incident was not immediately established.

The body which had no physical injuries was removed to the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital Morgue for postmortem.

The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal and financial difficulties. Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.
