A team of detectives has managed to recover assorted items from two suspects arrested over links to a robbery incident that led to the discovery of a human body in a shallow grave at a home in Trans Nzoia county.

The recovered items include a motorcycle, assorted mobile phones, and a pair of jungle police uniforms.

Police confirmed that two suspects are in custody and only one female body was recovered from the grave.

Detectives from Kiminini Subcounty and a team from Trans Nzoia County visited the scene following information from members of the public.

They managed to launch an operation within the Mogoiywet area, Mambonde Sub-location and arrested two men who are suspected to be involved in a robbery with violence incident reported at the Maili Saba police post.

While at the home of one of the suspects, the police said they saw a freshly dug grave disguised as a mud hole for plastering a three-room house at the said compound.

It was then that the police moved to court and obtained an exhumation order.

They moved to the home on Tuesday and exhumed one body that had decomposed. County police commander Jeremiah Ole Kosiom said.

He said the body of a woman wrapped in a blanket was exhumed. She is believed to be the wife of one of the robbery suspects in custody.

Trans Nzoia DCI boss Paul Songok said that her identity has been confirmed as Alice Chemutai, who was a resident of Kitale town.

A postmortem examination will be conducted on the body to determine the cause of death. Police said they are yet to know the motive of the incident.

Detectives handling the matter said they were certain it was only one body that was at the grave. Investigations are ongoing.
