Bungoma Kenneth Lusaka has warned revenue officers against engaging in corruption as he hailed the county for increasing its collection by 204.43 per cent in two years.

Lusaka said the amount collected was low when he was re-elected because of corruption and theft.

“I want to thank revenue officers in Bungoma for the good work they have done to increase the county’s collection significantly and at the same time warn those who are still corrupt,” he said.

Bungoma grew revenues by Sh751.97 million to stand at Sh1.12 billion, from Sh368.03 million when Lusaka took over from Wycliffe Wangamati in 2022.

This represents an increase of 204.43 per cent.

On Tuesday, Lusaka said Bungoma has put in place measures to ensure what is due to the county is collected.

“I am sure we have an opportunity to grow the revenue even further. We can collect more than what we have done.”

“I want to warn those who still engage in corruption that their days are numbered. They should stop immediately because we are going to nab them very soon,” he maintained.

Fourteen governors have turned around their own source revenue collection in two years.

The county bosses have increased their revenues by more than 100 per cent from 2022 when they took over.

Overall, the own source revenue collection by all the counties improved from Sh35.90 billion or 59.4 per cent of their annual target in 2021-22 financial year to Sh58.94 billion or 72 per cent of their annual target in 2023-24.

Leading the pack is Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga whose county’s own source revenue has increased by 716.03 per cent.

Nadhif Jama (Garissa), Patrick Ntutu (Narok), Ahmed Abdullahi (Wajir), Kenneth Lusaka (Bungoma), Simba Arati (Kisii) and Abdi Guyo (Isiolo) are among other governors whose counties have recorded huge growth.

Others are Jeremiah Lomorukai (Turkana), Kawira Mwangaza (Meru), Joseph Ole Lenku (Kajiado), Stephen Sang (Nandi), Irungu Kangata (Murang’a) and Jonathan Lelelit (Samburu).

Most counties have consistently failed to meet their Own Source Revenue targets in all the fiscal years since the start of devolution
