MPs from Northern Kenya have asked the police to widen the scope of investigation and expedite the search for missing Wajir Member of County Assembly Yussuf Hussein.

Speaking under the banner of the Northern Kenya Parliamentary Group, the MPs said the police should prioritise the recovery of the ward rep.

“Those responsible for the heinous crime must be swiftly apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” they said.

Addressing a press conference at Parliament Buildings on Tuesday, the lawmakers said they will not rest until Hussein is safely returned and those accountable for his “abduction” are brought to justice.

“We also continue to urge all Kenyans to remain vigilant and demand unwavering accountability from our security agencies. Upholding the rule of law is the bedrock of our democracy and we must work together to ensure its restoration and the maintenance of public order,” they said in a joint statement read by Eldas MP Adan Keynan said

Hussein went missing following an alleged abduction in Nairobi by unknown individuals.

The MCA was reported to have been abducted by unknown assailants on Enterprise Road in Makadara, at 9 pm and since then, his whereabouts remain a mystery.

The MPs maintained that if there are legitimate legal grounds for detaining Hussein, due process must be followed.

“He should be presented before a court of law in line with the principles of natural justice, the rule of law, and constitutional grounds without prejudices or compromise. Legal disputes, if any, should be resolved in the courts, not through operations like what the MCA is being unfairly taken through,” Keynan said.

Keynan said relevant agencies should provide timely and transparent updates on the progress of the investigations.

“The lack of information is fueling fear and uncertainty. The authorities must reassure the public that every necessary measure is being taken to resolve this case swiftly and justly.”
