President William Ruto has congratulated Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his re-election as President of Algeria.
In a message posted on X, Ruto said the resounding victory highlights not only Tebboune’s unwavering dedication and visionary leadership but also serves as a reflection of the respect and trust he has cultivated among the people of Algeria.
“As President Tebboune embarks upon his second term at the helm of Algeria, I am confident that his continued guidance and stewardship will lead the country towards even greater heights of progress and prosperity,” he said.
Tebboune secured a second term with 84.3 per cent of the vote.
Tebboune faced only nominal opposition from Abdelaali Hassani Cherif, a moderate conservative, and Youcef Aouchiche, a moderate secularist.
Tebboune was sworn in last Tuesday for a second term.
The ceremony to inaugurate Tebboune’s second five-year term took place at the People’s Palace, in Club-des-Pins, a seaside resort on the west coast of the capital, Algiers.
Cherif and Aouchiche attended the ceremony that came three days after Algeria’s constitutional court certified Tebboune’s landslide victory in the September 7 elections.
